Shoreline fishing license is free to residents, beginning July 1st. The shoreline fishing license for Florida residents to catch saltwater fish from shore or a structure affixed to shore cost $9 last year, but this year, it’s free beginning July 1. The Florida Legislature repealed the shoreline license fee during the past session. However, legislators retained the license requirement to prevent a more-costly federal registration fee from taking effect in Florida. More Info.


Alligator hunters must resubmit applications – Due to a coding error with the Florida Wildlife Commission's contractor, all alligator hunters must resubmit their applications before a random drawing can be conducted and permits issued. The agency will accept new applications between June 1 and June 14. Everyone who previously submitted an application will have to resubmit a new application during the new application period. 2009 Tax Collection Rate Remains Strong 94 percent of 2009 taxes collected as of April 21. "We are pleased to have collection rates maintained at the level of our 2008 tax bills, which reflects not only the diligent efforts of the staff at the Tax Collector's office, but also the strength of the economy in St. Johns County," said St. Johns County Tax Collector Dennis W. Hollingsworth, CFC. The delinquent tax list will be available in The St. Augustine Record and online at www.sjctax.us on May 11, and bidder registration will open May 3. Tourist Development Tax – On February 2, 2010, the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners voted to revise the ordinance authorizing the collection of an additional one percent (1%) Tourist Development Tax throughout St. Johns County. The total will be 4% in the General County and 6% in the World Golf Village Area.  The effective date of this new ordinance and the collection of the additional one percent (1%) Tourist Development Tax shall be April 1, 2010.
